Sweat Equity
Sweat equity demonstrates “willingness to partner.” Habitat partner families are required to contribute sweat equity to the ministry of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity defines the partner family as the people listed on the housing application who will live in the Habitat house when construction is finished. The number of hours of sweat equity required depends on the number of members in the partner family and varies according to age.
Basic sweat equity requirements
- 1 adult household (single adult) – 200 hours
- 2 adult household (couple or co-applicants) – 300 hours
In addition
- Each additional adult (18 years or older) in the household is expected to contribute an additional 50 hours of sweat equity over and above the minimum required hours.
- Each child age 16 and 17 must complete 50 additional hours of sweat equity.
- Each child age 14 and 15 must complete 25 additional hours of sweat equity.
